Flood Insurance in Washington, MO
Living near the Missouri River, the Bourbeuse and the many creeks in our area means flooding is a real risk, and it's not covered by standard homeowners or business insurance policies. Flood damage is one of the most common and costly natural disasters in the country, and a few inches of water can cause tens of thousands of dollars in damage.
Nothum Insurance helps homeowners, renters and business owners in Washington, New Haven, Union and across Eastern Missouri get flood insurance, whether or not they're in a high-risk flood zone.
Flood Insurance Options
• National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) policies for homes, contents and businesses
• Private flood insurance, which may offer higher limits or more flexible coverage in some cases
• Excess flood coverage for higher-value homes and buildings
• Contents-only coverage for renters
Do I Need Flood Insurance?
If you have a federally backed mortgage on a building in a high-risk flood zone, your lender will require flood insurance. But many flood claims come from properties outside high-risk zones, where heavy rain and flash flooding can still put water in your basement or business.
Keep in mind that NFIP policies usually have a 30-day waiting period before coverage starts, so don't wait until the river is rising.
What Flood Insurance Covers
• Building coverage for the structure, foundation, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and built-in appliances
• Contents coverage for furniture, clothing and electronics
• Debris removal
• Some basement items, such as furnaces and water heaters
Basement contents coverage is limited under NFIP policies. We'll explain exactly what is and isn't covered before you buy.
